Bubbles – Five Sentence Fiction

“Poetry is just so emo." he said. "Oh, the pain. The pain. It always rains. In my soul.” ~ John Green, Paper Towns

It was that time of the year again, when the rain gods showed no mercy on the city.

Though the first few days had been warmer with just a few drizzles here and there, everyone knew that worst was yet to come; as was predicted.

Just when everyone thought it was a hoax, in the afternoon of 26th the rains showed off their torrential self, slowly and steadily filling the city with huge bubbles of water.

I kept waiting anxiously at the window to see him arrive; and suddenly when I spotted him wading through the deep water, I shrieked with joy, heaved a sigh of relief and sprinted into the kitchen to make him a hot cup of tea.

And since that day I shriek in my nightmares every day, since the time the vile news burst my bubble of happiness, for life.
