Roses Are Only Flowers

“If I had a rose for every time I thought of you, I'd be picking roses for a lifetime.”

Have you hopped out of a cab
At nine o’clock on a cold winter day
Clouds and whistling wind and all
Dashed into the flower shop
With your arms wrapped about you
And wheezed, I want your best red roses
Will you send them to my love
Before lunch
And this card too
Which says lots of love

And have you ever had anyone say to you
Thanks very much for the flowers
They were lovely, you know, lovely
But you shouldn’t have
In fact I felt so bad
I nearly gave them away
I’m putting this very badly, I know
But thanks all the same!
